Membership
The Commission consists of the following:
- 10 members of the general public appointed by Council
- 2 members of the general public appointed by the VCPC
- 2 liaison Councillors appointed annually by the Mayor
- 1 member appointed annually by the Park Board
- 1 member appointed annually by the School Board
Duties
The Commission assists City Council in an advisory capacity regarding issues affecting long-range planning of the City including, but not limited to, development, governance, transportation, and the public realm.
Commission tasks include the following:
- submitting reports on matters relating to planning and development of the City
- representing ideas and opinions about the future of the City of Vancouver
- reporting to Council in response to any proposal likely to have a significant effect on the future of the City
- keeping educated about and being aware of current issues
- considering plans and proposals for major developments and changes to land use
- producing events which bring together key thinkers - elected officials, city staff, corporate executives, and citizens
Meetings
The Commission generally meets at City Hall from noon to 2:00 pm every second Wednesday. Most of the work of the Commission is done in committees, researching and preparing drafts of briefs and recommendations to be sent to Council by the Commission as a whole. Committees also coordinate the Commission's public consultation role which may take the form of seminars, workshops and conferences.
